After last weekend being so busy, I vowed to bake only one dish, and then perhaps a bread.

So the weekend plan was executed. Not exactly as planned, not "without a hitch", and not necessarily with the same outcome as expected, both of the cuisine, and of my feelings about the process.

The beginning of something tasty (one always hopes)
These days I find myself spending an increasing amount of time during the week planning out my baking for the weekend. It has gone from one sweet dish (brownies, cookies, Rice Krispie Treats), to a sweet dish and a bread (Artisan, Sourdough), to now being even a third that somehow incorporates with the dinner theme of the weekend.

My first ever homemade, hand kneaded, Artisan Bread*. The look out-shines the taste, although it wasn't half bad. I just want to do better. (*The Mini Bread is a toy that my son ran and grabbed out of his cupboard the moment he saw mine come out of the oven)
I guess of the 3, I am a baker. Well, I am drawn in the direction of baking in recent months. There are many possible reasons for this - a history of baking with my mom as a child, a current health regime courtesy of Tim Ferriss's 4 Hour Body allots me 1 day a week of total food mayhem, a need for a creative outlet other than work, a desire to have something to share with my son who seems to enjoy both the process and the results, a strong dose of inspiration brought about by my amazingly talented wife's rediscovered creative spark. The reasons are plenty, and I will get into them in more detail in due time, but suffice it to say I did not expect this intense interest in something like this, but I'm riding the wave, and I'm enjoying it more and more.
DoMenStic.com is a place for me to explore, explain, and dissect this and other domestic interests that may seem slightly unexpected for a man such as myself. I realized in looking at myself and my interest in baking that there are a great deal of people around me that are pseudo-experts in the various skills often attributed to the opposite sex. That juxtaposition is what DoMenStic.com is all about.
It's a new age, gender lines are becoming more blurred, and I want to learn how to make a Brioche. Let's all embrace whatever direction your interests take you.
